I thought this was a sweet, sexy story, it's more focused on character development then it is action and I enjoyed it more because of that. Both characters have a lot that they are working through but it takes both of them a long time to lean on the each other and work them out together. I'm always a fan of second chance romances so I was positive that I would really enjoy Heart Breaker. The idea of a singer/songwriter duo who's relationship crashed and burned yet were forced back together in order to create a second album really appealed to me. My initial thought was "this is going to be interesting!"
Ugh... I found myself getting annoyed at Jolene and Chance a lot. When I say a lot I mean A LOT. Normally the love/hate relationship creates a chemistry that draws me in and has me routing for them but that was not the case with these two. I found the back and forth both boring and annoying and I was indifferent as to whether they would get together or not. There was a real lack of maturity with the two of them and it went on forever. It kind of reminded me of a Soap Opera. There could only be happiness for a split second before something would come along and spoil it. There was a ton of heat within the pages but without a great story surrounding it I couldn't find the fire.
This book was only 230 pages yet it took me three days to finish it. Normally I can finish a book that size in an afternoon if I'm really liking it. I could only take this book in small portions. I wish I could pin point exactly what was lacking for me but I'm not one hundred percent sure what it was. It just wasn't my cup of tea.
Couldn't finish it. Junk. Poor writing. Nonsense
This book was okay....I like most of Erin McCarthy's books but only a few have been really great. I think she may be rushing her stories. I feel like these are the loveswept books I read ten years ago.
This book is well written and a joy to read. This author is such a great writer and I have enjoyed every book I have ever read.
I have read several books by Erin McCarthy and have enjoyed them. This is one of those books that kept me engaged and reading it in one seating. The story is one told before, but Ams. McCarthy made it fresh and new. Two country music stars start the book as having broken up. Obviously their communications have left much to be desired so naturally their agent tries to get them to write another album. Both Jolene and Chance had strong feelings for each other but did not let the other know. Fun, quick read that I enjoyed. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC for an honest review.
Good HEA! Jolene & Chance are on top of the Nashville music scene until they break up. Now they can't get along and are under contract to produce another album. Chance still loves Jolene but can't handle the public attention that comes with being on top. Jolene has dreamed of making it big and doesn't want to give up her dreams. Neither of them understand the other one's side. So what happens when their manager locks them in a cabin to produce the music needed?
The characters are well developed but stubborn. Neither is willing to just sit and listen to the other's side or try to work out a compromise. The plot line is realistic and easy to follow but with twists and turns that are easy to follow. The sex scenes are realistic and tasteful.
